One table two projects

100_5446

Back in the summer, Jan gave me some items she had curbed. This table was one of those items.

100_5447

It had actually been a “tiered” table, hence the holes.

faux pocket watch

In the fall, I used the table top to make my faux pocket watch.

I used my CommandMax sprayer to paint it black. Did you see the post about my two tiered accent table?

The finish is really fabulous.  The paint is Behr Premium Plus (satin).

IMG_0770I cut and covered a piece of scrap plywood. I ended up taking it apart realizing that the square was really too large for the base.

IMG_0773This is before I trimmed the plywood.

IMG_0779This is after I trimmed the plywood and the foam to fit the new size. Using a serrated knife makes cutting foam a breeze.

IMG_0780I rounded the top edge of the foam.  (in the first round I found that it was just too squared off looking) I rounded the edge with scissors, not the knife shown in the picture.  Smile

IMG_0784I then trimmed my drop cloth material to better fit the new trimmed board.  I started stapling, first one side  .  .  .

IMG_0805.   .   .   then the other.  Huh?  doesn’t everybody DIY in their pj’s?

IMG_0801You can see I tugged really hard on the last side to make sure it was good and tight.

IMG_0814I do NOT like corners.  I had never done anything this thick, and I really was clueless how to do them.

IMG_0815Just winging it here, too impatient to take a break to “google” it.

IMG_0825The manufacturer of the table was kind enough to have left me some great pocket screw holes in order to reattach my new board.

IMG_0832voila!

IMG_0842This stool would be great for sooo many things.  A footstool, extra seating in my tiny living room, a window seat for one of my furbabies (it’s the perfect height for my low window sills) and last but not least, it could even be used at the foot of a bed as a pet bed, or a leg up for that short legged fifi or fido.

small footstoolI really like the shape of the legs/skirt.  It reminds me of something that would have been  found in my Nana’s house.  I like the black a lot better than the red toned wood.

jan's curbed table into footstoolOne curbed table into two great projects!

All this stuff would have been off to the landfill, had Jan not rescued them!  Thanks girl!  I appreciate your castoffs! (for those of you who don’t know Jan, she’s a local reader who contacted me to make some stuff for her, now I call her “friend”)

Who knew a tired table could have so many uses!
The clock face is still one of my favourites and the little footstool is fab, a house always needs footstools!

Another pj crafter, I'm not sure I could craft /DIY in anything else!

What a great idea...this turned out darling. I am currently working on a tiered table right now and although it looks quite "dated", I hope I can fix that with a little stain and paint!

Looking forward to the return of "Catch as Catch Can...and the giveaway as well!

Just lovely. I used to hate corners too. Now they don't bother me anymore. I just make sure that what I do to one corner, I do to the rest so it looks the same. Great job!

Great stool Gail... I am still drooling over the first project... who knew you could re-purpose a table into a stool... I do now, thanks to you. Another great masterpiece.

thanks to all!
I have had this on the back burner for way too long. I dreaded putting it all together. The plan was to do a transfer image on the fabric, (citrasolv) but I never could get it to work. Maybe the image was copied on the wrong machine, maybe citraolv and drop cloths don't play well together? I'm not sure. But it was time to move on. lol

Great projects Gail! And no, I never let myself start a project in my jammies because once I get on a roll I can't stop. I'd end up in my jammies for the whole day!

Wow! Great job repurposing that table! I love both projects, and it really gets my mind thinking about some of the pieces that are sitting in my garage. Thanks for sharing.

Looks great! I think you should paint some stripes on it, ala "grain sack style!"

What you think of to do with a plain old table is just magic. I'm always anxious to see what you've come up with in each project. You never disappoint.

That turned out fabulous, Gail!!!! You are so clever!

If I'm home and I know no one is coming over...I'm always in my jamies. If someone doesn't phone before coming by...they take me as they find me. lol

Ok...I'm investing in a staple gun! Looks great. :)

I like the black a lot better, too. It's a cute little stool! I love how nothing ever goes to waste with you! You found a good use for the top and the base. Cool!
