Wagner Power Plus Review & Giveaway

I was recently contacted about doing a review for the Wagner Power Plus Paint Sprayer.  As most of you know, I generally use a different paint sprayer. I have never used an electric sprayer before.

100_9667

I had to wait a few days to test drive this paint sprayer due to temps over 100 degrees. We all know I don’t deal well with the heat.  On Labor Day we had some much more tolerable weather!

100_9670

My cousin Kay gave me a couple of random chairs to use in my kitchen.  I sanded them a little and gathered another lone chair from the garage.

100_9674

First I sprayed them with an oops primer, probably not the ideal color for white chairs, but I use what I have.  (I recommend keeping a small brush handy in case you have runs or drips)

100_9678

After a nice coat of primer, I sprayed the chairs with a coat of Dutch Boy Refresh (Sweetened White).  I’m near the end of this paint, so it looks like I may only be able to have two guests for dinner.  hahaha

100_9701

The two chairs on the left are from Cousin Kay, the one on the right was given to me by my sister a couple of years ago.

100_9676

While I was testing the sprayer, I put a coat of primer on this shutter (louvered door).  If you’ve ever painted louvers with a brush, you know how difficult it can be. I must say it was a breeze with the Wagner Power Plus Paint Sprayer.

Power Painter Plus

  • Wagner’s exclusive EZ Tilt™ technology allows the user to spray in any direction with continuous flow due to a flexible suction tube, which goes to where paint is in the cup – no matter which way the sprayer is pointed, thus ensuring a more professional finish. Other sprayers, without EZ Tilt™ technology, draw air as the cup level goes down and the gun is tilted resulting in spitting or stopping of the sprayer.
  • Also equipped with an Optimus™ Dual Tip, the Power Painter® has two jets that create a vacuum, drawing more paint into the spray pattern, and delivering a better finish and more even uniform paint coverage than a brush, roller or round tip sprayer.
  • The Power Painter® line features a revolutionary design with a new easy lock paint cup and multi-directional paint siphon tube, allowing the user to easily load and refill paint. All models are built with tungsten carbide components, from the cylinder to the spray tip. These models can handle everything from stains and sealers to un-thinned exterior latex paint, allowing users to complete any type of project in less time, with professional results.
  • The Power Painter® line is the only airless high-pressure paint sprayer equipped with speed and paint stain selections, which allows the user to quickly complete multiple projects with just one tool. In addition, each model features a set-up time of less than five minutes and a clean-up time of less than ten.

How did I like this new paint sprayer?

Pros

  • It is quick!
  • Easy to use
  • Not too complicated to clean
  • Sprays at an angle due to the unique flex tube
  • No compressor to lug around
  • Less fog and smell than with my HVLP sprayer (I think a painter’s mask would be sufficient as opposed to the large respirator I normally wear)

Cons

  • It is heavy-at first I thought it was going to be too heavy and painful for my carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand. However after I started using it, I quickly realized that I could (very naturally) support it with my left hand.
  • Overspray, being used to an HLVP sprayer, I was surprised by the amount of overspray during the first round (primer). When I painted the chairs with the white paint, I arranged them differently and took advantage of the overspray. (see picture above)
  • I had to fill the cup too often, I expect this to get better with practice.

Now for the fantastic news!  To celebrate the unofficial end of summer, Wagner is giving two of my readers their very own Wagner Power Painter Plus (MSRP $129.99). Each winner will also receive a DeckMate  for staining or sealing.

How to enter:

Leave a comment  -- the comment should summarize your “project in need” that a Wagner Power Painter could help you complete before fall/winter. Winners agree to  try out the Wagner Power Painter Max  and post a brief review along with their “before and after” photos right here on this ole blog.  Sounds easy, right?  I know you have something you need to paint and or stain before winter sets in!

Limit one entry per person. Giveaway begins today and ends Wednesday September 14 at 10:00 PM EST. Two winners will be chosen using Random.org from eligible entries.  Must be 18, US residents only.

Although I was supplied with a Wagner Power Plus, I received no other compensation for this post and the opinions are my own, your results may vary.

This is wonderful! I was looking at something similar this past weekend. I would use it to paint my fence, which is in desperate need of paint! This would help so much because I have been dreading the thought of rolling the whole thing. And with fall and winter being the best time to be outdoors here I would appreciate it a ton in the coming months!

We really do need this as last summer we had a deck built around a portion of our above ground pool and never sealed it. Well this season has come and gone and it still remains unsealed. This would make quick work of a much loathed job! Sealing the deck and the lattice work surrounding the deck!!!

Thank you for this opportunity!!

I have TONS of projects that could use this sprayer! I have a wonderful campaign desk I've been meaning to repurpose into a small bar, but I've held off because of all the internal painting/staining needed. This would get it done in a flash. Not to mention the roll top desk for my daughter, numerous vintage woodworking machines, the odd chair... If I don't win one, I'm putting this at the top of my Christmas wish list!

wow, a sprayer?! Since I lost my job this summer, I've been trying to refurb and sell furniture to make some extra cash (and I've completely fallen in love with this new "job"). Unfortunately, painting the pieces takes most of my time, and I'm just not getting enough done. A good sprayer would be a huge help in general, but particularly on a cane back chair I'm currently working on. Thank you so much for this chance!!

I would love to own this and refinish the piece!

When I got it back it was all out of paint and he had painted my project for me. I just love clean up :-)
SO- this would be a good toy for backup or even to do more fun projects with. Thanks for all your tips and pics. You're a true inspiration!

I took this approximate 4' square crate, installed shelves, am making doors, this thing really needs a coat of stain to bring out the highlights on the wood. The wood is rough, so it will take several coats! Wagner prove to me it was worth the effort of my poor husband having to drag the crate out of the dumpster! He may never get me anything else if it wasn't!

I would love to be signed up for this giveaway. I just finished a painting project with the exact hlvp paint sprayer you use, on a Buffet I did. It turned out great but having to use a small air compressor, and managing the hose gets somewhat bothersome. Well I bought matching hardware for a television armoire that I converted into a dry bar/liquor cabinet, and now I want to paint it to match. The paint sprayer would be put to good use!

Cari and Michael Schultz said...

Oh my! Do I have to pick just one project? Lets see, I guess the kitchen would be first (cabinets and walls), then the master bathroom needs to be done (cabinet is still natural and the walls need color! It is sooo WHITE in there!), and then the numerous mismatched wood pieces throughout the house that need to match in each room. I picked up a cheap sprayer to do the picket fence in the back yard, and didn't get further than three posts before I threw it in the trash. I have been dreaming of the waggoner for a while! Thanks for the opportunity!

P.S. I also do wooden yard art that I plan to use it for! :)

Grace said...

Oh my goodness, I have so many projects this could help me with. The most pressing need would be the kitchen cabinets. They were once white and are now just yellowed and nasty looking. A fresh, clean coat of paint would make a world of difference in my kitchen!

Kathryn said...

The innovative ME is constantly bringing home furniture that needs painted, but the lazy ME absolutely hates brush-painting-- and spray paint gets prohibitively expensive fast! My current projects-in-waiting are a dresser for my 4-year-old son (his clothes currently reside in filing cabinets), a toddler bed frame for my 3-yr-old, a bedside table, and more. I -- and my husband (who can't stand unfinished projects!) would really, REALLY appreciate a Wagner power sprayer!

I was really happy to read your review. I have cupboard doors to paint and I have been wondering about that tool and thought it would be nice to find out how well it works. Thank you for putting it to the test.

Boy, could I use this sprayer! I love the idea of finishing my coffee talble redo or my new t.v. stand with an even coat of paint.

gypsygirl said...

MY GOODNESS!! Some folks want this sprayer!! And I'm one of them. I usually don't enter blog giveaways, *give someone else a chance* and all that. But tjis I have been wanting! My new shed/work space is almost complete, used rough sawn board and batten for the sides, and it needs paint! The rough wood will not be fun to brush, but a sprayer would make it easy AND fun, plus no compressor to house!! Not to mention my roadside finds aka 'projects' that always need paint...Good luck everybody!! And Thank you, Gail!!

What great timing! I've had some bedroom furniture in my guest bedroom for about 7 months. I told myself that I would get to painting/refinishing them this summer, but summer has come and gone and no furniture was painted! I would love to win this sprayer! It would help me get motivated again to refinish these pieces!

I didn't think I had it in me to do it again. But, I'm doing it!! Scraping and painting...ugh big job! THANKS for the chance to win this sprayer. It would Make the job alot easier!!!

This sprayer is every newbie -decorator-on-a-budget's (like me) dream. I have a few projects in mind but the one that this would be the most useful for is for the four mismatched (2 and 2) chairs I have in my apartment. They're cute already with a wood tone but I'd love to tie them together by doing something fun like a pale yellow or something. Also, I tried my hand at painting a table with a brush and though the brush strokes "add character" I'd love a redo with a good sprayer. Pick me please!

I have used Wagner Spray Tech Paint guns for 40 years and I love them! I do not have one at this time because I loaned my out and it did not come back in good shape. If I win one of these spray guns, I will paint a short chest of drawer and an antique dresser and distress both of them. I also have picture frames for Christmas presents I would like to paint. After that, I would send it to my Navy son and his wife (yes, here I go loaning out again!)who are buying a new home in Virginia. They would be glad to have it to paint their kitchen cabinets and the paneling on the wall. We would be glad to supply step by step pictures of how we did all these projects. What a FANTASTIC giveaway! I sure hope you pick me, because I have a paint project that I keep putting off because I don't want to spend all weekend painting. I am turning our guest bedroom into a craft room/ office/ guest room and it desperately needs a paint job. The color has been selected - a swatched on the wall. The stencil has been bought - and tested on the wall. All I need now is the Wagner Power Plus to help me get it painted. Please pick me!!

Fantastic giveaway Gail! We are installing all new doors in the house and I have not started painting them yet. Also, my kitchen! Which I keep putting off. This would be great.

We need one of these! We have three walls of brick (slump brick which has deeper grooves) that need painting. We primed them by hand...it took days and all of our sanity. They need a few coats of paint and we keep putting it off because we haven't purchased a paint sprayer.

Laura said...

We are in the process of finishing our basement, and while a sprayer is going to be a must on all those new walls, all my other projects are stacking up because all our resources are in the basement... I have a whole wall bookshelf build to do in my family room and a coat rack locker build for my hallway. Both would be awesome to paint with a new sprayer, especially since I've never used one!

Corn in my Coffee-Pot said...

I would love this sprayer! Where to start...Which project?
I think I'd love to use it to FINALLY PAINT my Frankenshelves... I've still not painted them.
Or! I could use it to paint the inside of my Camper... that's if we get it finished in time.

I hope I win...put my name in the pot!
