Repurposed Headboard Sign

100_9812
Do you remember these bed parts I got recently for $5.00?  The one in the front is painted, while the one in the back had never been painted. I used my sawzall to cut the posts off of the headboard. (I used my compound miter saw to even up the ends after I cut them with the sawzall)  This sign was made with the bottom of the piece that was not painted.

stenciling with Silhouette
I used some contact paper in my Silhouette SD to make some stencils.  (I still have the positive pieces to stencil another sign someday.)

Stenciling with Silhouette SD
The word was very large and difficult to work with because the font was very “frilly”.

spray painting a stencil
I used some ScotchBlue Painter’s tape to tape off the edges.

Krylon Dual Paint
I used some Krylon Dual, paint and primer in one to spray paint the piece black.

Stenciling with Krylon Spray Paint
Several light coats work best.  I did it basically like I did the Welcome headboard bench.

Stenciled Wooden Sign
I removed the stencils and was thrilled with the results.  The fleur-de-lis were so crisp, they almost looked like stickers.

To give the sign a little shine, I applied some wipe-on poly right over the vinyl.  I wasn’t sure if it was going to work, but it did just fine.

stenciled sign
This might be one of my favorite signs.   I really like the natural wood tone with the black paint.  I still have the top board, and the other headboard for other projects.  Smile

Are you a wood tone lover?  Or do you prefer painted signs?

Gorgeous! I like the wood tones sometimes and painted sometimes, depends on what it is and what it's used for I guess!

Love your natural wood sign for a fresh look! And great example of repurposing!

That board was perfect for that sign. You're right, the wood looks great with the black lettering. Love it!
I go back and forth on stained wood. Depends on where it's going I guess.

I like both painted and wood tones, depends on the project...sometimes both together! This turned out great...just good ol' contact paper huh, who knew?

I don't even know if I told you, that I did order a Silhouette using your code (hope you get some kind of perk for it!). I have had it a couple of weeks and haven't even used it yet...now I may have to go buy some contact paper and play!

As always, thanks for the inspiration!

It's so cute! I appreciate things that are still wood-toned because so many people *only* paint things. It's nice to see a mix!

What a great idea to use the old headboards!! you can go those for almost nothing in my area... sometimes for free!

NICE! I'm on the fence for preference though, I like both,

I really like that! It's nice wood so I'm glad you didn't paint it. I like a little of both wood and painted pieces in my house.
I'm always amazed at how much mileage you can get from one piece! I know I'll see something fabulous done with the posts you cut off before too long.

Fabulous! Loved the way it turned out. I like both stained and painted as there is a place for both.

Great job!

I love the curviness of this sign! I usually go for the painted look but I really like the tone of the wood. Nice that it's a little different then some of the others.

This sign turned out great. I like unpainted wood if it has a pretty grain, otherwise painted works for me.

looks great! I love the black on the wood tone too!
