Small Faux Drawers

I think I’m almost done showing you the items I used for Jamie’s Bridal Shower.  Today I’m going to show you how I made some small faux drawers.  They even fooled Jamie. She asked me where I got the little drawers, and I told her I made them. I’m not sure she believed me at first.

I went through my “stash” and found this narrow very long piece of luan. I cut it into equal pieces on the compound miter saw.

I set my pieces up and used Gorilla Wood glue and Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape to hold the pieces together.

I put another piece on the bottom.  I sanded the rough edges. I find the best way to sand some items is to keep the sandpaper stationary and move the item around.  By keeping the sandpaper in one place and sliding the little “drawer” around, it helped to really smooth out the edges.

I used a sample cream colored paint. But I wanted to add a little more oomph.

I did a “dry brush” technique with my Mythic Paint.

Then I added some cute little knobs to make them look like drawers.  After this picture was taken, I did a little more cream colored paint to “wash out” the blue a little.

This is how they were used at the shower. They held the wrapped utensils.

I used one of the faux drawers to draw my winner for the Reader’s Choice giveaway.

A couple of months ago, I won a giveaway!

Primitive & Proper
Cassie had a great giveaway from Ramsign!  I love all of their signs, and it was very difficult to decide just what to get.

I decided to get a present for the newlyweds!  Seemed like a no-brainer to me. I haven’t been able to blog about it until I gave it to Jamie and Andy at the shower.   Isn’t it awesome?!  You really should check out the wonderful signs at Ramsign.  Thank You Cassie and Ramsign!

I love to win giveaways! It’s been a while for me, have YOU won anything lately?

Like the drawers you put together...those could be used so many ways. Clever!

I won a giveaway recently...it was a painting of a shamrock for St. Patricks day. The painting was done on screening. It was so nicely done.

Those drawers are really cute. I'm saving the picture so maybe Grampy will make me a few. ;)

Very cute drawers! If they were a little longer, they'd look like vintage sewing machine drawers.

Please drop by our blogwarming giveaway to enter to win six anitique blue canning jars. www.theoldblockhouse.blogspot.com

I love the cute little drawers! I really like your drying technique with the nails - I never thought of that - it's awesome! I actually just built some drawers too - it was scary at first - but they ended up being easier than I thought. Great job - and so cute - and practicle in so many different areas of a house!

Love the little drawers, so cute! I just won a prize yesterday; a software program called Quilt Album. I will be able to catalog quilts and crafts I've made and even use the photos I save to make business cards or cards. I am looking forward to playing with it.

That sign is to die for! I bet Jamie loved it. I didn't realize you made those drawers, and I loved how you put the utensils in them. You are such a good carpenter, I bet you can make anything you put your mind too, amazing.
