I know you all like DIY projects, but today, Shannon @ Quarry Orchard has a DIY of another sort! I’m fortunate enough to have met Shannon in real life. She and her husband do quite a lot of DIY at their place, be sure to stop over and see her fabulous Plywood to Plank Flooring Tute! (but not till after you check out these terrific dog treats!)
Hello! I was so thrilled when Gail asked me to guest post for her today! I'm in a bit of a project lull at the moment, so this was a great boost to get me back to productivity! (the jury is still out if it worked or not though)
My mom has been making her own doggie treats, or "treaties" as they are in our house, for awhile. Our beagle, Ellie, LOVES them.
What you need:
- 1/3 cup peanut butter
- 1 1/4 cup hot water
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup oats
Mix the dry ingredients together.
In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients. (I'll be honest, I was a bit skeptical about getting the peanut butter and the water to mix together)
But, it does work and it eventually does dissolve. Then, mix both bowls together.
For the next step, I used two methods… the second one is the keeper… At first, I patted it out flat onto wax paper. Then, I used Mom’s bone cookie cutter. My dough was too sticky and it was a mess.
The better option, which I did after about 10 bones, was to toss the wax paper and just flour my counter. Since my dough was a bit sticky, I added some more flour to it before I patted it out and started cutting again. This was MUCH easier. They were actually coming out looking like little bones. (If you don’t have a cookie cutter you could just cut them into little squares). Put them on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake them for 30 minutes at 350.
Ellie could smell them from outside and came in to sit and wait patiently in her bed. She could still see the whole process and watched me diligently, just in case I dropped something.
While the bones were in the oven…
…..I had extra help with the dishes.
The house smelled like peanut butter cookies all night.
I have a few more recipes that call for eggs and broth. Those have to be refrigerated though. Since these contain no products that need refrigeration, they are ready to be added to the treatie bowl for rewarding the most spoiled little beagle ever.

Thanks Shannon for filling in for me, while I’m away in Nashville helping jamie with some last minute preparations for the BIG day! I appreciate the great tutorial. I think Louie would LOVE these treats!
Scroll down for another great guest post from this morning!

I'll bet my little Trixie would love those. She has two crackers every morning with peanut butter on them. She has two peanut butter sandwich cookies every afternoon. She's just a tiny bit spoiled. The crackets have to be Ritz and the cookies have to be Walmart brand. lol
I've saved the recipe and will be making some for her. Thanks for filling in for Gail. I know she'll be glad when this weekend is over.
Oops that should be crackers not crackets. Where's the aw sh*t button when I need it? ;)
Look yummy, well at least for the dog they do. Dear daughter has been wanting to make dog treats, we will have to try these!
I think Henry would love these. But my son might be a bit jealous if I made dog treats since it's been awhile since I've even baked cookies!
Oh my, I love how easy these look to make, and no special ingredients needed either. I'll give it a whirl and let my babies tell me how they are! Thanks for sharing this with us.
So fun. I make homemade dog biscuits every Christmas for all the family hounds and they're always a huge hit. The dogs smell that Christmas parcel coming from miles away!
Thanx friend any tips for natural homemade dog food??Excellent Post! I just noticed this change a few minutes ago and made a short post about it. I will include your post in it.
Thanks for the suggestions
