Chocolate Bird Nests (bird themed bridal shower)

I made these cute treats for the guests at Jamie’s Bridal Shower.

Ingredients:
2 bags of Candy Melts
1 bag of Chow Mein Noodles
Cocoa Riced Cereal
1 Bag Cadbury Mini Eggs

These are the ingredients I gathered. I had no idea how much I would need. What I have was way too much!

100_9536
I poured in about 4 cups of the cocoa cereal, and about a half of the bag of chow mein noodles. (I didn’t use all of these dry ingredients)

100_9537
I melted the candy melts in a makeshift double boiler. (a bowl over a pan of water on the stove)  I then poured most of the chocolate into the smaller mixing bowl. Gradually adding the cereal mix until a nice consistency was formed.

I scooped the mix into a muffin/cupcake pan.

This was my first experience with these candy melts. I was shocked how quick this chocolate hardens back up.  After the nests firmed, I used a plastic spoon to loosen them from the tin.

100_9542
I had left some of the chocolate in the bowl so that I could “glue” my eggs in the nests. I carefully dipped each egg into the chocolate then put them into the nest.  I resisted eating any of the Cadbury eggs, and it’s a good thing I did!  After putting 3 eggs in each nest, there was ONE egg left over!  I got 30 nests from my 2 bags of candy melts.  I chose to use cocoa cereal because I thought it would blend in better with the chocolate.

100_9546

I placed them in cellophane bags, used a twist tie and a piece of jute to tie them shut.

I think they turned out really cute!

And… they were pretty tasty too!

These would make nice treats for Easter!

yummy! mini eggs are my favorite! How tragic that you only ended up with one egg to munch. I would have gone out and bought a bag just for myself.
Those favors turned out so cute. Love the chalkboard and bird tags. So cute!

Can I ask a question about the label? Black card and chalk? or board, chalk paint and chalk? I like them too.

They're wonderful! I bet they taste fantastic too! I was looking for those little Cadbury eggs everywhere last year, to no avail. Hope I can find them this year. Your nests would make adorable cupcake toppers too!

These are absolutely beautiful and delicious! I can't wait to make them for my kids Easter party at school. I bought Easter themed cello bags from Box and Wrap so I can wrap each one individually for the kids. They'll love them!
