Frosted Vinyl Monogram (Silhouette SD)

I have another Silhouette project for you today. They have many colors of vinyl, but did you know they also have frosted vinyl?  It’s pretty awesome!

silhouette (2)

The Silhouette SD is a fairly simple machine.  You can tell by the inside that there aren’t a lot of things that the user needs to do. That little green dial locks in the blade.

silhouette blade

This is the blade. Only one blade, but three different colored caps to adjust the depth of the cut.

For vinyl, the blue cap is suggested. It screws on.  After that, it easily fits into the slot, and you turn the green dial to lock it in.

frosted

I wanted to do a monogram but I didn’t want to waste any vinyl, so I designed my page with a few other images.

To load the vinyl, it takes just one push of a button. After the vinyl is loaded, you tell the program (on your computer) to “send to Silhouette”.  Then you make some adjustments to the speed and thickness and media.  Click “cut page”.  Sit back and watch this little beaut do her thing!

I got a little excited and forgot to take pictures after that.  This is the monogram and flourish with the excess vinyl taken away.  It’s backward because I have to put the transfer paper on.

Here it is with the transfer paper pressed on it.  You rub the transfer paper on to make the transfer paper adhere to the vinyl, then remove the original backing of the vinyl, leaving only the vinyl and the transfer paper.

I know that might sound complicated, but it really isn’t.

I applied it to the center of this little framed mirror and then rubbed the “W” and the flourish onto the mirror.

After the vinyl “transferred” to the mirror, I peeled back the transfer paper.

I did it by laying it down and rolling it.

This is the end result.

Ya’ll know how difficult to take a picture of a mirror.

This is what the mirror looked like originally.

I spray painted it and added little “feet” to it last year.

I also made my own stencil and spray painted the “W” on it with frosted spray paint.  I wasn’t happy with the result and ended up scraping the paint off. It’s been on my fireplace ever since “naked”.

The frosted vinyl has endless possibilities!

Hey Gail,
Your mirror looks great. My daughter and I are making centerpieces with the "R" monogram frost painted on glass cylinders.. but this would be so much easier.

Oh,, forgot to mention the centerpieces are for daughter #1 wedding this October. So much to do.
