Have you noticed my sponsors over there --->> on my side bar? Say It On The Wall is one of my favorites! Laura is so sweet and generous. I previously won a giveaway and received this vinyl:
I recently ordered two more items from Laura.
This has been one of my favorite sayings for awhile now! I found a couple of scrap pieces of MDF in the garage and trimmed them into squares.
This is the other item I got. Isn’t this perfect?
I didn’t want the projects to be identical, so I cut one board larger than the other. Because it was larger, it allowed me to do a border. I used Scotch Blue painter's tape right along the edge of the board.
I did a dry fit to make sure the vinyl was going to fit inside the border.
I chose one of my Martha Stewart sample colors.(Aegean Blue)
I of course used my Purdy brush to get great coverage.

I painted the other board with Martha Stewart Sea Glass.
They looked really similar until I laid them next to one another.
Of course, I got busy and forgot to take pictures of taping for the border. After the blue dried, I used Scotch Blue painter’s tape on the blue and painted the black border. No seepage! I love my Scotch Blue!
I’m a novice placing vinyl, so I did another dry fit to see exactly where I wanted to line it up.
You may remember that I typically use luan for these type of projects. I have done that with my Family Rules sign and Subway art for Granny. With those projects, I usually just hang the project on the wall by the 1x that is across the top. With these two projects I didn’t want to add a hanger (saw tooth) because I want the plaque to hang flush against the wall. I decided to drill a small hole in the back.
I placed a piece of Scotch Blue painter’s tape on the bit to help me get a feel for the depth of the hole.
Here, I am testing to see how deep the hole will be. Of course, you would NOT want to drill the hole all the way through your board.
I drilled slowly, stopping when I got to the tape.
There ya go! A hole just big enough for my nail.
This is hanging in my kitchen! I love the blue and black together. (Have I ever told you that blue is my favorite color?) ;)
Doesn’t it look like something you’d by at a high end store?
I love it!
Now, I’m on to work on the green one. Cousin Terry bought me this Lufkin 1 Inch X 25 Foot Self Centering Power Return Tape measure for Christmas. Look closely and you will see that the red numbers are HALF of the black numbers. When measuring, you don’t have to “figure” for center. You can see the red numbers here show me that the center will be at 6 1/4 inches. Isn’t that cool!
So, I make a mark at 6 1/4 inches. (you can see it better here. Let’s take a harder one-5 1/4, the center would be 2 5/8)
This is the green one hanging in the kitchen for it’s debut!
However, while looking for a place to “stage” it, it found a home in my bedroom! The wall is a lighter green, but I think it’s the perfect place for it.
Do you know another way you can use these 12x12 vinyl sayings? On floor tile! Wouldn’t one of these look great on a tile displayed on a decorative easel? Wouldn’t you LOVE to get your very own? Laura from Say It On The Wall is offering my readers a great deal on any of her 12x12 tile vinyls. Click the banner below and use the promo code PURPOSE30 for 30% off! Now that is a GREAT deal! This promo code is good through the end of February 2011.
You don’t have to use a table saw to get a great looking plaque! Floor tile is easy peasy, even easier—just apply it directly to your wall!

I love the one you hung in your kitchen...really nice. Trish
I love the one with the border, the black just makes the blue pop! They look so much bigger than 12 x12. Wow, 30% off? I'm all over that! See ya..... ;)
The saying you hung in your kitchen is identical to the one that hung on the wall in my mom's living room for years. It's one of my favorites. Great job!
Hey sweet girl...sorry I've missed your last couple of posts...I've been sick. I mean I'm REALLY sick...fever, congestion, headache, achey, sinus infection blah blah blah! I feel terrible! I think I might have the flu. :-/ Oh well, this too shall pass. :)
I'm glad you liked my mantel and all my tips. I am thinking about doing a small series on decorating tips...I just have to sit down and think of them all first! lol I think you decorate your stuff just fine, your Christmas mantel was cute as a bug in a rug! :) It doesn't take too much to make stuff cute....I shop for most stuff around the house or the Dollar Tree! :)
Think I better lay back down...not feeling so great. I'll talk to ya later sweet lady!
Hugs
Missy

Missy

Wow Gail these are great. I am going to check these out.
I'm so glad that you just did these! Since we have paneling everywhere, I'm about to do some of these myself :)(AND with my Martha Steward sample pots too! :))
I must have that tape measure! Can you share the brand name?
Beautiful work, as usual.
I love both of these... great idea putting them on the board, then they are so permanent. I tried the code but it didn't work... I will check it out later. Great job... love the colours too.
Funny enough, Dennis just bought that tape measure for me... I hate fractions and I am always struggling to find the centre point.
Have a great day Gail.

it's awesome!
I love what you did with both. Great colors. I'm a blue lover as well.
I don't see that in a high end store. I see these pieces in a *boutique* with custom items....sigh...really gorgeous!!! You did a super job!
Wow those are show stopping! I love how you did them, both a little different but oh so chic. Thanks for all the tips you add to your tutorials, it really helps!

chris
They both look fantastic! I LOVE the one with the black border~it really does look very high end. The quote is great, too.
That tape trick is a handy one. Thanks for sharing. :)
That looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I love those sayings!
I love this! Thanks for sharing.
Both of your projects are great! I'll be sure to check out Laura's site. BUT, your tip regarding the tape measure made my day! I recently moved into a new house and I've been hanging things and agonizing over centering things. I'm fussy about that sort of thing! (And terrible at math!) You can be sure I'm gonna get me one of those Lufkin tape measures asap!! LOL! Thanks so much for sharing and Happy Transformation Thursday!
