This is the headboard.
This is the bench we made out of the headboard.
We used a 2x4 across the front, and old chair legs for the front legs.
This may have been one of the first times we put the legs on the outside as opposed to the inside of the box. I’m sure there is a technical term for it, but I don’t know what it is.
I like the detail at the top of the legs.
The seat is flooring.
You can see how the detail on the top of the headboard mimics the detail in the front legs.
This is the matching foot board.
For the front legs on this one I traced the outline of the legs on the foot board, and cut them with the jig saw.
The seat is flooring.
These benches are from last year. Cathy and I had planned to make more benches for our upcoming show, but she mentioned over the weekend during our pitiful yard sale that maybe we shouldn’t take anything so big. I may try to talk her into at least one corner bench and one twin bench. We’ve been to this particular show for the past two years, and I think people may be expecting to see benches!
Because I did not know I would be blogging when these photos were taken, I don’t have any in progress shots. If you have any questions, just let me know.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate soon and I can get some major projects completed. Until then I’ll have to dig up items such as these benches from my archives!

Great job on the benches. I especially like the one made from the tall headboard. I like the legs on it better than the blue one. It brings out the detail in the legs.
One thing about taking a bench is that it makes a great place to display small items. Especially if you are short on counter/display space.
Oh Gail, I love your bench! That is a project I've been wanting to try. Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow, I love the sleigh bed bench! Its beautiful!

Great job on all the benches Gail. I really like the sleigh bed one, love the way you did the legs on that one.
I really want to try one of these some day... first I have to find a spot to put it, that may take a while...lol
Have a great day Gail.
Hugs, Deb
fabulous! i would love to see it with a funky cushion on the bench seat as well... i think that would realyl looko nice, too! i love the armless look of this one and htink it would be great as it could be pullsed up to a dining table. i am just full of opinions this morning, huh? that's what happens when it is 8 am and i have already cycled, had breakfast and a huge coffee!
Show? You need to let the locals know the when and where! :)
This is great! I'm always so impressed when I see such a creation! Maybe one day I'll be able to do it.

Awesome!!
As always I love your projects! So beautiful!
They look great! I love the legs on them. I think I like the legs better on the outside. You can see them better and all the wonderful details.
Sleigh beds are my very favorite for benches, love these!
Love the benches! Great idea to use flooring, we have tons of extra in the basement :) I linked up to you again when we did our most recent bed transformation over at afewgoodpieces. Thanks!
I have seen beds made into benches before, but none as awesome as yours! Beautiful! I admire your talent!
What a cleaver idea, very nice, I LOVE the blue one, I would love something like that in my house!
How creative! They look great.
I don't often say "WOW" out loud when on the web but, I did when I say these. These benches are so wonderful. I am going to be on the look out for the perfect bed now. I have to have one of these.
"WOW!"
