Edited to Add: See that cute banner UP there? A birthday present from my wonderful daughter. She popped into my account and added it! That sneaky girl! Gotta love her bunches!
I recently saw this window at Susie Harris’ blog. I instantly fell in love with it. However I didn’t think it fit my decor. BUT, that was before I did my fireplace makeover. After gave my fireplace a new outfit, I decided something like this would be perfect for my mantel. You can click on the picture to go to Susie’s site. If you’ve never been there, check it out (later, after you read my post)
The first step was to make a paper pattern. I had specific plans for this faux window so it’s dimensions had to be within a certain scope.
This was the first pattern, very similar to Susie’s. However, I decided for my personal preference I wanted the panels to be more of the same size.
I went back to the drawing board and tried again. It’s hard to tell the size of this. It is about 14x28. I’m not a very patient person, when I want to start something I have a hard time waiting. See this nice sunshine? Don’t be fooled! It was about 38 degrees with a wind chill about 25. I had this curbed piece of 1/2 inch plywood. It was very difficult to get the paper pattern to lay on the wood due to the wind blowing so hard. Mostly I drew the curving parts and marked the corners.
I have a wonderful metal yardstick that is perfect for these types of projects. I used it to connect the dots.
I finished drawing it out on the wood, then I made dots in each of the corners.
I used my Black & Decker drill to drill holes in each of the corners.
I then used my jigsaw to cut out the square “panes”. I simply put the blade into the holes and sawed from one hole to the next.
I’m not too good with the jigsaw.
Drilling the holes in each of the corners makes it easier…no corners to turn. I will show you more of this project tomorrow. I just can’t wait any longer! I must spill the beans.
It’s MY birthday and I am giving someone a present!
Drum roll please! Announcing my giveaway!
From the press release of Black & Decker’s newest Jigsaw
New Jigsaw Eliminates the Frustration with Common Cuts
Black & Decker (NYSE: BDK) officially announces the launch of its LINEFINDER Orbital Jigsaw with SmartSelect Technology (JS680V) offering more precise jigsaw cuts every time.
For years jigsaws have included numbered performance settings. The problem is that these numbered settings don’t explain how best to set jigsaws for optimal performance depending on your cutting application. Homeowners must resort to trial and error to find the best performance settings. Black & Decker has cleared up this confusion with SmartSelect Technology, which does the thinking for its users. Just turn the dial to select the project icon and the jigsaw automatically adjusts the orbital setting and speed for optimal results. It’s perfect for straight cuts in lumber, curved cuts in plywood and cutting PVC and metal. Users need to simply rotate the dial to one of seven different settings for best results.
Following the cutline when working with a jigsaw can be difficult, especially in poorly lit workspaces. The new LINEFINDER system makes cut lines stand out for better visibility and more accurate cutting. Simply draw the desired cutline with the LINEFINDER pen (included). Then turn on the ultraviolet light on the jigsaw and watch the line illuminate and stand out clearly against the cutting material. The LINEFINDER pen is a fine tip yellow highlighter. When the LINEFINDER light shines on the cut line it illuminates for increased visibility and accuracy. It is most helpful when cutting curved lines, where a traditional laser does not work.
An easy-to-set Accu-Bevel™ angle adjustment sets the jigsaw at 0, 15, 30 or 45 degrees for angled cuts. A Quick Clamp™ tool-free blade change offers easy blade changes. This powerful 6 amp jigsaw provides 0 to 3,200 cutting strokes per minute. The LINEFINDER Jigsaw will be available for $60 at Lowe’s and other select retailers.
You won’t have to shell out any bucks if you are the lucky winner of this baby:
Black & Decker generously agreed to supply me with this wonderful jigsaw to give away to one of my lucky readers! I am green with envy. «Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 277 Newer› Newest»HAHA I don't know how to use a saw yet, but that line finder is AWESOMEEEE! Jami
I have to agree with the first comment! The light that shines on your cut? Genius!
And yep, follower here! I can't wait to make my headboard into a bench!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, what fun. What's not to like, the line quide, the magnectic blade storage-always looking for blades arrgh. Have to admit though I scrolled right on by looking for your completed project, scrolled up and down in search before I stopped to read about the great give away. Looking forward to seeing your finished project.
What a really neat window, can't wait to see how it all turns out. Your room has really came along nicely. Nice saw...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY
I'm new at this but would love that saw with the dial that I think would help me with a variety of projects.
I love the faux window! Wouldn't it be gorgeous as a headboard?! And happy birthday!
My birthday is this month too. I think my hubby will faint dead away if I give him this link (http://www.blackanddecker.com/smartselect/jigsaws.aspx?WT.mc_id=BDSSelectJigsaw) and tell him that I want the "tool with the special glow-in-the-dark-thingy." I'd have to say it like that so that he can still keep his "man points."
Happy, Happy Birthday! MUST HAVE THIS SAW! I always have a tough time hitting my line--LOVE IT!
Amy

Happy Birthday Gail! My birthday is the end of this month...March is a great one, eh?
I would LURVE to win this, and I went over to the site to see what it's all about. I think the line finder and smart select details would make this a great first jigsaw for me :)
Oh! and I'm a legitimate follower now, but I've had a link on my blog for a while! Can't wait to see the window!
Oh, and I can't wait to see your window! And I'm a follower :)
Happy birthday! I like the Linefinder, what a great idea. I would love to add this to my meat cleaver tool box.
Having your cutting lines illuminated like that is FANTASTIC! I WANT IT!
I am a follower!
I follow you on facebook too! ;-)
I am your fan on FB.
LOL-I must not have had enough coffee yet this morning..I clicked on the video and it was about drills. Completely threw me off for a minute. Is there anything NOT to like about the jigsaw?? THe light, magnetic blade holder, line finder and it's pretty ;-)
Now that I'm pretty much unemployed I could have LOADS of fun with that baby!!!
Thanks for having the giveaway Gail :-)
Katy
I have just started with blogging and following blogs and yours I love. I could so use that jigsaw for some things I have in the works.
I'm Canadian so not eligible to win, so I'm just here to say Happy Birthday Gail!
Oooh! I like it when you have a birthday! ; )
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
And I love following your blog.
I was just reading your post and then thought, hmph, I don't have a jigsaw, so no use even trying this one.
Maybe I'll get lucky? = )
Many happy returns!
The linefinder light is so cool. The glowing uv looks like it would be so much easier to see than pencil.
That light for the cutting line is fantastic! That's my fav feature! This is looking like a great Father's Day gift! Hmmmm...
And I follow your blog. So happy to have found it!
I love that the jigsaw would let me make cool stuff on my own!
I'm a follower
You first draw your line and then turn on the line finder light! Too cool!

Oh I would love to use this little thing,, I love the light pen that shows you where to cut.. what a great idea.
Oh and I'm a follower of yours
This tool seems to have everything you need - it puts my 25 year old Black and Decker to shame. What a neat idea with the light but I really love the dial. My saw only turns on and off, nothing special so adding these features to an already great item is wonderful.
The line finder line is cool! Happy Birthday fron Gina ;)
I am already a facebook fan :)

I've been shopping for a jigsaw! The B&D has been at the top of my wish list. I think I'd do a happy dance if I won... I'm a follower.
I'm also a follower on Facebook.
I am also a follower of your blog...not a stalker LOL
You already have my email
I think with the SmartSelect dial, even a novice like me could use this jigsaw!
I've been afraid of a jigsaw because I wasn't sure how to use all the settings. It looks like this one would solve that problem for me!
I love everything about this! The linefinder ESPECIALLY, but the magnetic blade storage and adjustable speed just add to the glory. Thanks for the giveaway!!
I'm a follower! You're on my IGoogle page so first thing in the morning I see if you're up to anything new!
I didn't realize you had a fan page, but I'm a fan now!
Love the new banner by the way. It's very cute.
I follow My Repurposed Life on my reader!
This is great. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Lia
I have been a loyal follower for a while now... love your blog.
Oh that is just too cool... I love that line finder... and the magnetic blade storage... and the fact that it can also do angles... and adjustable dial... this is a no brainer for sure...oh heck I just LOVE the whole saw... I am Canadian but can ship it to my BF's address in New York... hope that is okay.
PS... Loving your new banner... what a sweet daughter... and hope you have a wonderful birthday.
Hugs, Deb
I just became a fan on your facebook too... good luck to everyone.
What a great give-away, thanks for sharing. I love the line-finder feature as well as the easy dial. The pen clip on the cord is such a great idea, I hate searching for my pencil when I am working...and it is hard to always keep it on my ear!
I am a follower, I hope I win.
I visited the B&D site and I love the light and the marker holder. Every project I spend too much time looking for where my pen/marker left. I hope I win! :)
I am also a follower via google reader. Love your site.
I love the line finder. Anything to make things easier for me would be great
I have wanted a jigsaw for a long time and my favorite thing about this new one is that you can control the speed. I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to some power tools. Especially ones where cutting are involved! Love the window project and Happy Birthday!
I have been a lurker for a long time and now I am a follower. :)
Just became a member of Twitter about a week ago its so fun - retweeted!

I've never had the opportunity to use a jigsaw yet but I think the neatest thing about it would be the smart select dial. I would love to win this item.
I am a follower of your blog.
I would love to have this jigsaw and then I could really do some cool new projects. I would love to learn how to use it!
My jigsaw bit the dust, so this one would be a blessing! I love the idea of the illuminated line...never cut another crooked line again! :)
Hope I win! LOL
by the way, I am a follower of your blog....you know I am! I love it! :) hee hee hee!

Love the magnetic blade storage. Seems like we can never find the loose parts to anything - drill bits, new blades, etc. This feature would undoubtedly eliminate much frustration!
I am also a follower! thanks for the opportunity!
Happy Birthday!
I love the setting where you can adjust the speed. Invariably, I go to fast when cutting and screw up my project.
