I am linking this post to the SURPRISE party at DIY Showoff! As I say in the original post, this is one of my favorite shutter projects to make. They are very popular at our show in Glendale. I usually sell every one that I take. This year, however there was one that I didn't sell, and I immediately brought it home and put it to use in my own home. It was a tall brown magazine holder. I am currently out of town, so I can't show you a picture of it, but here are some other ways to use them:

This is one of my favorite shutter repurposing projects. Now, when I say shutter, I usually mean bi folding door. In my curb shopping, I rarely come across true shutters. But many people throw out bi folding doors of all sizes. I cut them in half with the table saw. Then I remove some slats. The way I remove them generally depends on which slats may already be damaged. Then I sand them to "rough" them up. When I paint these projects with a brush, I find that a small brush works best.I usually use the claw of a hammer to break out every other slat, and because I never throw anything away, I use the broken slats for many purposes. ie paint stirrers, shims
gail
